Ok Tp Connection ..

So … heres something i remarked really early on between tp and krakatoa ( last beta installed running with the Krakatoa Stamps everywhere but i assume its fully functionnal anyway ) …

  • The Color Translation from tp to Krakatoa throught the Color Data Channel … This sounded really cool at the first view , until i actually tried it… heres the issue i m seeing , Tp can manipulate color \ mapping infos per particles . it does this throught many existing operators ( shape material , Tp Variation map , New operators in tp 4 etc.etc… ) Their seems to be No way to connect the Resultant Color info per particle to Krakatoa … The only thing i saw possible about this connection is to create a Materwave for example and Put a Map in the Emition Slot of the MW and Then for Some reason , if user create a DC Color Float on the group that this MW is borning from , then the color gets transmited to Krakatoa … But this dosnt sound logic to me ( from a Tp user perspective ) as without krakatoa , this setup dosnt Assign color to the particles in tp ! That map is used to Emit Particles from then map of that Slot and Not assigning Particle color from the map … maybe i m missing something but i asked joe and he assured me that this is the way its working… so please it would be good to allow Resultant Values from the Tp Setup to be Carried over … i mean the point of using DC in tp itself is that they are “Global variables like” carriable throught the whole system to do other maths from them \ related to them …

You are right, from TP’s point of view it does not make much sense.
But we talked to Cebas and it turned out that the SDK does not provide any way to access UV or color data per particle, since the data is stored in the mesh of the particle and it was never intended to be accessed through the SDK. TP was designed to work with meshes and it does that well. It just wasn’t designed to be an abstract point cloud generator.

Our implementation of the User Data channels is a HACK and we admit it. We wanted to give the TP users SOMETHING to work with until we can find a way to solve this on both sides. I spoke with Edwin at Siggraph and we will try to figure out what could be done on their side to provide an interface to get the data over. But it really isn’t our fault, and Cebas was busy finishing 3.0 so they could not squeeze in a solution for us in the short term.

Ahh sweet , thats good to hear , hopefully will see cool things in the futur in theese areas , thank you sir

Edwin is telling me indeed that this is a max issue right now and how Tp is setuped as a particle system … What if we just create Dummy Shapes ( not renderable ) and Krakatoa Could tap in to those directly throught the Sdk to get the data ?

i dont know just thinking …
