Planning for Deadline 6

It’s been a while since I’ve been here, so excuse my absence!

I’ve been thinking about some upgrades and had read a white paper that recommended setting up the repository on SSD’s.

It then occurred to me that a big RAM drive would be even more awesome, especially with a good system for backing up crucial information.

However, I’m concerned that coming changes in version 6 will render (pardon the pun) this plan redundant.

What do I need to know, and am I allowed to know it?

Simon

Deadline 6 would definitely still benefit from SSD’s (we would still recommend using them), and also benefits from lots of RAM. Since we’ve switched most of the Repo’s data to a Database in 6 (only scripts and logs are kept in the file system now), being able to fit the entire dataset in RAM is optimal. So the more RAM the better, really. Since our dataset isn’t super big, and would rarely (if ever) exceed a modest amount of RAM, I’d say a RAM drive would be a bit overkill; not that it would hurt of course .
