pools dropdown oddity

Hello,

I have one user who has some strange behaviour with their Deadline 4, 3DSmax, RPManager submission interface.

In some of his files the pools dropdown menu is empty (in fact we have 2 pools). If I open the standard Deadline 4 submission menu then i see the same result. However if I then close RPManager and open the standard Deadline submission menu then the pools appear perfectly in this menu. Opening RPmanager again and inspecting the pools and they’re gone again.

This is linked to some strange submission behaviour such as prioritys being set wrong for some passes during submission.

So far this is only one user and even odder only with some 3D scene files.

I’ve tried searching for an ini file somewhere on the machine that the Deadline submission menu uses to fill it’s dropdown menus but I’m guessing that each time you open the menu it grabs the information from the Repository machine ?.

Any help or ideas for further troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

Hey Ben,

This almost sounds like an RPM issue, especially since without RPM, the regular Deadline submitter works fine. Have you mentioned this to the RPM guys to see if they have any ideas?

That is odd that it only affects one use. Maybe there is a configuration issue on their workstation? Maybe they could try logging into another machine just to see if the problem is related them or just their machine.

Cheers,

  • Ryan

Thanks Ryan,

Both good points, as far as I know Grant didn’t write the new Deadline 4 submission scripts for RPM … I think he emailed them to me and said that you guys had done it. But that could be me getting my wires crossed.

I’ll try moving machines now. This is why I was looking for some breadcrumb trail of settings on the machine itself … am I right in thinking that everytime you open the interface it grabs the list of pools from the repository ?.

Yeah, we sent him the scripts for Deadline 4, so it’s very possible it could be on our end. Based on the script code, it should be grabbing the pools every time it launches. Maybe try reinstalling the integrated 3dsmax script as explained here, to see if that makes a difference:

It sounds like this issue isn’t trivial to reproduce, since it seems a bit random. If you have a simple test scene that reproduces it though, maybe you could post it and we can try to reproduce it here.

Just wondering if this problem was ever solved? We are having exactly the same error at the moment. I’ve tried to re-install the intergrated 3dsmax
script but unfortunatley this hasn’t solved the problem. It’s certainly an RPManager problem though.

Nathan

Hello,

Reinstalling the RPM submission scripts seemed to fix it in the end … it was a very random one.

Sorry I can’t be more help.

new RPM scripts are available for v4.1 here:

We’re having the same problem here. I feel like there should be some kind of cache/temp file stored somewhere by the RPManager script that somehow overrides the stock on once the RPManager interface is opened, but I haven’t been able to find one anywhere. Deleting and re-installing the RPM 4.1 submission script doesn’t solve it either. Is this possibly the kind of property RPManager is storing in the Max file?
