Hi guys, new to the forum, looks like a nice community!
I’m a student and i’m struggling to get started using Deadline. I only have two machines. One is a Win7 box (which is what I am submitted jobs from) and the other is an XP box. I seem to be having a network issue. Even though the XP box has full read/write permissions to the shared project folders, render output folder and the repo it still shows up in the monitor as stalled. After making the repo into a mapped network drive it now shows up as “idle” but never actually does any work when I submit a job. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Edd
Hi Edd,
While the slave is showing up as idle, according to the Last Status Update column, the slave hasn’t updated its state in over 8 hours. Normally, a slave will update its state every 20 to 40 seconds, so something is obviously wrong here.
First, we should enable verbose logging for the slave. This can be done in the Monitor while in Super User Mode by selecting Tools -> Configure Repository Options. Scroll down to the Logging section and enable slave verbose logging.
Then, go to the Win7 machine, close the slave if it is running, and start the slave up again. Let it run for a few minutes and then check the Monitor to see if the machine is updating its state properly. If it’s not (ie: the Last Status Update is over a few minutes), then go back to the Win7 machine and check the slave log window to see if there are any errors. If there are, go to the slave log folder by selecting Help -> Explore Log Folder in the Slave application and find the most recent slave log. Post it here and we’ll take a look.
Cheers,
Thanks for such a quick reply Ryan.
I did what you said. The monitor is reporting that Mediabox (the slave) stalled 1.7 days ago, but it has only been switched on for about two hours.
This is from the log folder, I’ve removed much of the “License-Free mode” lines because it went on like that for a while
I’m pretty sure it can connect to the repo because it is finding both computers there - “LICENSE-FREE MODE: Repository has two slaves including this one - no license required.” but it doesn’t seem to be able to find the submitted job.
This might be a silly question, but is it possible that the Mediabox machine is connecting to a different repository then the one that your Monitor is connected to? What do you see when you start up the Monitor on the Mediabox machine?
Not a silly question at all Ryan, in fact you were right! I’m sorry for wasting your time like this.
Originally I had installed the repo to the /Program Files/ folder but then reinstalled it to C:/Deadline/repo because I decided to put all my shared folders like the project folder and the output folder in the same directory (C:/Deadline) I had just forgotten to change the repo location on the monitor computer.
Once again, thank you so much and I apologise for wasting your time on such a silly problem!
Edd
No problem! Just glad to hear that it’s working now.
