Good, we have 2 rendering farms in different countries and everything works for us including the license forwarder, but when using the pulse we can not turn on the computers in the other region if pulse is not the primary, is it possible to advance in this so that you can turn on the computers without remote need ?
As you’ve found only the primary pulse can perform power management tasks, this is to avoid conflicting commands from two different pulse applications.
It might be possible if you can get all the render nodes onto the same network via a VPN so that that wakeup packet can make it to all the machines. I know that transferring broadcast packets past the first router can be troublesome, so I’m not certain it’s possible. I don’t have the networking chops to get you there. But these folks in this serverfault thread have discussed a couple ways to bridge subnets. I’d imagine jumping LANs is similar.
Otherwise, you could use a different method of starting the machines and invoke it with a script in the power management settings. I don’t know of one offhand but if you can find something that doesn’t rely on magic packets that should be workable.
Thanks for the answer, yes we were for a while using VPN to connect everything, it worked correctly but the transfer speeds were not cost effective, I will investigate with what you have told me.
