Is there any possible solution to make PRT files quicker than assigning Krakatoa render, choosing sources, path, channels, etc and then going back to wanted renderer?
As PRT format becomes larger use than just rendering with Krakatoa render, it will be real time saver to have separate tool only for saving particles to disk.
It can easily be scripted - save current render preset, change to krakatoa, put it in save mode, give it the path, render, load back the render preset.
Yes, Hristo, I thought about that.
Just thinking maybe ThinkBox have already something done with it, or just keep that in mind as Krakatoa becomes complete particles solution and saving maybe should be in a separate way than in renderer. Just another wish.
To be frank, we have had this on our Wishlist since before Krakatoa 2.0. It has been pushed back several times because it would require rethinking a lot of workflows on both sides. Currently, saving is like “rendering to disk”. A lot of the things you can do at render time like channel overrides and so on are part of the renderer, and not having that around at saving time would mean less functionality, or duplicated efforts to provide these features in a new place. We did add a PRT interface for saving out particles via MAXScript, but of course it is a lot slower than the Real Thing.
We have discussed a MXS Interface that lets you pick one or more PRT objects and dump them to disk via the internal PRT saving code (so it would be faster) for things like quick proxy generation, resaving of existing sequences with new KCM-defined channels, some partitioning work etc. That way anyone could develop quick tools for (re)saving PRTs.
So we understand where you are coming from, and it is already logged
It’s always very interesting to hear stories about developments, re-thinking and decision making from you, Bobo. Thanks for sharing and good to know that something new will come, hopefully soon enough
Best of luck!
