Hi guys, I am using the Deadline quicktimeGenerator to create quicktime.
I have a problem with the tool, when I load a sequence from this path:
C:\Documents and Settings\sylvain.berger\Local Settings\Application Data\Frantic Films\Deadline\slave\jobsData\nukeQuicktimeTemp_temp0
I get this error:
Error: Oops! An error occurred. (COM)
When I copy the file in c:\temp\ for example, all is fine.
Any idea what could cause this com error?
Here are the command logs:

I just tested a similar path here with v7.55.90.70, and it worked fine. I remember QT had a problem with particular file paths (either long ones, or paths with spaces, I can’t remember), but now I can’t remember if that was with an older version, or a newer version (which is why we’re not running the latest).
I guess it isn’t possible to downgrade QT to see if that makes a difference?
Damn… I will revert to a simpler simpler solution. Since I am writing the files in the same plugin, I will write them in C:\temp\folderX then delete the temp folder in the postProcess of my plugin.
Hi again Ryan. I used to create quicktimes using Nuke. Now I switch to rendering a sequence of png with nuke to add the information overlay, then I use the quicktimeGenerator to create the quicktime.
So far so good, everything works perfectly.
The problem I have is with the damn gamma value on Macs.
Previously, when creating the quicktime from nuke I could use a small command line application that would remove the gamma data from the quicktime QTGamaStripperWin32.exe
But this application doesn’t work with the quicktime created from quicktimGenerator.
Where can I get my hands on this QTGamaStripperWin32.exe tool? I would like to try this out here and see if I get the same problem. Also, when you say it doesn’t work, does it crash, or does it just not strip the gamma out?
Thanks for the link. Just to make sure that Deadline wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary, I used QT Pro to load in an image sequence and exported it to a QT movie. I used the gamma stripper tool on this movie, and got the same results you did on the movie that was created through Deadline (Deadline’s QT generator is just hooking into the ActiveX control that is installed with QT).
So I’m not sure if there is anything we can do about this…
Nope. The ActiveX control lets us hook into pro features without requiring the pro version to be installed. I only used the Pro version to run my tests because you can’t export a movie from the standalone QT application unless it’s the Pro version.
I will have to check with the dev team and see if they were able to do any other testing, but based on what Ryan said, I don’t think it’s possible due to the limitation mentioned.
Hi,
For any QuickTime generation requirements, I would recommend Draft! It’s just received a small update as part of the upcoming v6.2 release as well.
