Realflow file location problem

Hey guys, this is probably a simple question but I couldn’t find any documentation on it.

I’m trying to do a mesh build in realflow through deadline. The problem lies in that instead of looking on our server for the particle files, which are in the proper folder next to the submitted file, it instead looks on the local “C” drive of the slave in the following directory.

C:\Documents and Settings(username)\Local Settings\Application Data\Frantic Films\Deadline\slave\jobsData\particles

Now I’m not sure if it’s first supposed to copy all needed files locally and it’s not, or if there’s a setting to have it look on the servers for the files. I would think that since all realflow projects have a predetermined folder structure, that deadline would look in the folder next to the submitted file path.

If anyone could help that would be great.

Sean

OK, I’m an idiot. Though in my defense I’m not a full-time deadline user, the company I work for uses Rush, but I’m still trying to get them to switch or at least add deadline to our render management software.

I kept the defaulted option of “submit realflow scene” checked, not realizing it would load up the local workspace, not the network workspace.

So in summation, DONT use the “submit realflow scene” option for realflow scenes

Sean

Hey Sean,

I was just about to suggest that.

It probably would be a good idea for us just to remove this option for RF in the future, or at the very least, default it to false.

Hey there,

we seem to be having the same problem but can’t find the check box. We’re using deadline 3.1 and 3ds max 2009.

I’ve noticed there’s a realflow folder in client setup on the repository with a py scrip to submit to deadline. Should this be put somehwere in the submission window when sending a job from max?

We’re getting particles but no mesh.

Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris,

Just to confirm, are you submitting from within the RF interface, or from the 3dsmax interface? The info mentioned earlier in this thread is for when you’re submitting from the RF interface.

If you’re submitting from withing 3dsmax, one thing you could try is disabling the “Submit Scene File With Job” option under the Options tab. If the max scene file is on the network, and the RF stuff sits along side it, I would expect this to work.

Cheers,
