Realflow sim status

Is there a way of seeing the status of a sim? It just sits at 0% and the only way to see what frame it is on is to view cache dir for newest file.

Si

Hi Si,
Could you send us a copy of the RealFlow sim log report, so I can see if it is printing out any STDout that we can parse? Could you confirm the version you are using as well?
Thanks,
Mike

Yes, no worries. Do you want me to send it to support?

I will have to do it on Monday, just did a change and will take all weekend to sim.

Si

Hi,
Sure or upload it here as a text file, as it will probably be too many lines to fit nicely in these forum posts. Either way should work
It doesn’t have to be the exact Sim you are currently working on. A simple sim, with reasonable STDout should suffice to see what is happening here.
Could you confirm the version of Realflow you are using, please?
Thanks,
Mike

I’m using Realflow 2013 (7.1.3.0152) This is their newest build.

My Deadline is 6.2.0.25R (6acea2ada)

thanks for your help

Hi,
Not quite sure what the issue is here, so we are going to setup Realflow and try to re-produce the issue. I think some minor improvements can also be made potentially to also reporting back some of the sub-process activities via the Slave’s “Render Task Status” column in the slaves panel, so will look at that as well. This has now been logged in our issue tracker.
Thanks,
Mike

Other than that one issue, everything else works great.

Thanks for taking a look

Hi,
We have carried out some testing and Realflow sim progress seems to be working fine for us. See the screen-grab below. Could you confirm that the column’s named: “Progress” in the task panel & “Task Progress” in the slave panel are showing a % value whilst the sim job is processing on a slave? On a separate note, I think we can try and grab more STDout from Realflow and inject it into the “Task Render Status” column for greater visibility.
Mike

Thanks, I have it working. I didn’t have the “Progress” tab up and I was just looking at the “Task Progress”.

If you could add “particle count” that would be great. I have had problems where a sim leaks particles and would be nice to just track this.

Si

Hi Si,
As far as I can tell in the RealFlow STDout, Particle Count isn’t logged by the software during a simulation. If you can get it to appear in the STDout, then we can hook onto it and report it back via Deadline. I guess this would be something you could suggest to Next Limit to improve on their software. Here’s an example of the current STDout on an example sim job:

Ok, I will pass that on to them.

Thanks for your great help.
