Realfow & Krakatoa

Hi, I’ve started using Krakatoa with Realflow. I noticed that when bringing realflow particles back into max with a PRT loader they’re flipped on the world Y axis and rotated 90 degress on the X axis. The rotation thing is understandable and I’m not concerned about that, but the flipped axis thing concerns me a little. The SD that I output from max going into realfow is not flipped, The scene in realflow is not flipped either. Only when I bring the realflow particles back into max are they flipped. I can scale the PRT loader to be -100 on y to make everything line up, but does anyone know if this will cause any problems with krakatoa?

Thanks

Cg.

Max is Z up, Y into the screen. Realflow is Y up, Z out of the screen.
What you see is the regular difference between the two coordinate systems.
What you did to solve the problem should be safe and ok.
If you would save BIN files from Krakatoa, you would have to rotate them in Realflow, too.
I assume Realflow does the coordinate system conversion when moving between the programs. Krakatoa does not.

Hey thanks for the reply Bobo, I understand about the Axis-Up differences and I’m not that worried about that aspect. The issue I’m worried about is the fact that need to scale one of the axis’ of the particle loader to negative 100 to get it to line up, and whether Krakatoa will have issues with negatively scaled particle loaders.

Sorry I wasn’t clearer in my first post.

Cheers,

Cg.

I got that part - since particles are not polygons, I don’t see a problem with scaling negatively. If you DO find a problem, please let us know!

The main problem with geometry objects scaling is related to flipped normals and hierarchy misbehaviors. As long as you don’t use your PRT Loader in a bone chain, you should be safe…
