Recomended installation steps on a virtual machine, RCS nginx local workers and remote aws spot instances

Hey a few questions here as I have the chance to setup a new repo and want to be sure it is efficient as possible.
I plan on installing both the database, repository and rcs server / nginx on a single virtual machine to begin with on Centos 7.
Should i install both the repo and database on an smb/nfs share on the file server? Rather than on the virtual machines local disk? Ie block storage to file server for the database
If planning on connecting everything via RCS does the repo even need to be on a share? / accessible by users?
Is Nginx actually recommended? I’m reading conflicting topics here, some saying it has issues? Mainly considering as it seems the secure route when being exposed to the web?
