Render Node licence issue.

Hello,

I have a Krakatoa Standard bundle licence.
1 workstation + 2 Rendernode.

I’m working fine on my worksation and rendering is ok .
I use deadline in free mode to make partitions.

I have installed Krakatoa on 1 of my Rendernode and add this line in my registry

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\FLEXlm License Manager]
“FRANTIC_LICENSE_FILE”="@192.168.1.14;"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FLEXlm License Manager]
“FRANTIC_LICENSE_FILE”="@192.168.1.14"

I have also installed Deadline wich run in free mode.

I’m starting all partitioning from max to deadline.
Deadline is giving part 1job to my workstation and Part 2 job to my rendernode.

My flexlm licencing tool say me that i have 2 render licences and only 1 in use.

The render is fine on my workstation, but the rendernode don’t find the licence on 192.168.1.14 ( my workstation where the lic is )

What i’m doing wrong ?

Hi!

We are very sorry, looks like we forgot to edit the network rendering license documentation on our webstite.
If you are using Krakatoa MX 2.0 (and from the error message it looks like you are), then the name of the Registry entry should be changed from “FRANTIC_LICENSE_FILE” to “THINKBOX_LICENSE_FILE”. With Krakatoa MX 2.0, we switched the vendor name from “Frantic” to “Thinkbox” and the license name from “krakatoa-max-render” to “krakatoa-render”. The latter will be used for Krakatoa SR (stand-alone renderer) licensing too.

Could you please change the “FRANTIC_” to “THINKBOX_” in the Registry and try again?

Sorry for the misdirection!

Regards,

Hello Bobo,

Nice to hear you

Sadly it’s not helping me .
I’ve change all Frantic to Thinkbox in my render node registry and it’s the same error flexlm -15,570
Of course, i’ve try to restart the computer after modifying the registry .

My network is working fine with all my other licences from another manufacturers.

Hi,

Here are the steps I’d recommend for tracking this down:

[]Using the License Manager Tools found in the Krakatoa folder in the Start menu, go to the Config Services page and use the View Log… button to see the log information for the license server. If there is any mention of an error or possible problem that can be useful. Consider posting this information so we can better assist you. In your case, I believe there should be no issues since your workstation is getting a license correctly.[/]

[]Double check (on the render node) that the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\FLEXlm License Manager\THINKBOX_LICENSE_FILE has the string value ‘@192.168.1.14’. In your case I believe you have already done this. Try restarting the render node because this information can be cached with a previous incorrect value in rare cases.[/]

[] Disable any firewall that may be blocking your render node from connecting to the license server. On your machine 192.168.1.14, you should disable the built-in Windows firewall (temporarily, for testing purposes) and any 3rd party firewall (ex. Norton Internet Security). In Windows 7 you can do this in the Control Panel at Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Firewall\Customize Settings.Try again with the render node. If you check the license server log again, you should see something like this: 11:36:05 (thinkbox) OUT: “krakatoa-render” Conrad@192.168.77.235 If no entries are appearing that means your render nodes are unable to reach the license server. If they are configured correctly, this usually indicates that a firewall is preventing the connection.[/]

Please let me know how it goes when you follow these steps.

Without windows firewall, it’s seems to work. Can you give me the setup to apply to windows firewall ?

If you go into the control panel Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Firewall\Allowed Programs there is a list of programs that are allowed through the firewall. You will want to make sure there is an entry for Thinkbox licensing daemon … etc and lmgrd. If these aren’t there you should manually add them by path (C:\Program Files (x86)\Thinkbox\Krakatoa\etc\Win32\thinkbox.exe and C:\Program Files (x86)\Thinkbox\Krakatoa\etc\Win32\lmgrd.exe respectively).

On my computer there seems to be two entries for each of them where one entry has a check for Home/Work (Private) and the other is checked for Public. I recall recently having a problem with a different program that I solved by enabling both checkboxes on both entries so that might help in your situation. If you only have one entry, just check both boxes on it.

Thanks you , i will try and let you know.

it’s working fine now.

Thanks you Darcy , your help is great .

I have the standard bundle. 1 workstation and 2 slave.
In my mind , this mean that i can render or partitioning on my workstation and 2 of my render nodes. 1+2 =3
But it’s not like that. I can only partitioning or render on 2 computer. My workstation is taken a rendering licence .

Is it the correct behavior ?

This is correct. If you wanted to use your workstation license for partitioning there are options in the Partitioning rollout for calculating some of the partitions locally. If you are doing 10 partitions, you can use the Partition range from: 1 to: 7 controls to submit 2/3s of the work to Deadline (via the Submit Partition Range to Deadline button) and process the remaining partitions using the Generate Partition Range Locally… button by changing the Partition range from: 8 to: 10 afterwards.

Thank’s you i understand.

And how to use the workstation to render with the 2 nodes ?

You can apply the same concept to rendering images as well. If your sequence consists of frames [0-100] then you could (using the 3ds Max render dialog) change this range to [0-70] before submission and then render [71-100] locally.

Its not perfect since it requires more manually twiddling to submit, and you don’t get the automatic load-balancing from Deadline. I’ll make sure we do some brainstorming for future releases of Krakatoa to see if this process can be automated.

Thanks you for all thoose answers .

Maybe the less dirty way could be to make the Workstation licence seen like a render licence .
I mean, the workstation licence is krakatoa rendering and krakatoa GUI .
It’s must working like a simple krakatoa render licence when called by deadline or backburner .
