Rendering to Local Drive

Hi all,

Can Deadline render to a local drive, either a single frame or animations? Does it do this with any software? I am mostly looking to use Max and C4D. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Does Deadline allow rendering of single frames across multiple machines or just animations?

I’m brand new to Deadline, I’ve been searching the forums but I may have missed this. I’ve also been reading through the help for a while but haven’t found anything yet.
Thanks!

When the render nodes render a frame, they need to be able to access the output location, so it needs to be in a shared location. We recommend using a server to store external textures and references that the scene uses, and to save the output to. It is possible to share a machine’s local drive, but note that on Windows, there is a 10 connection limitation for non-Server operating systems. This means that if you have more than 10 render nodes trying to access your shared local drive, it will cause a lot of problems.

Animations are supported for 3dsmax and C4D. For 3dsmax, you can use the Tile Rendering feature to split up a single image between multiple machines, but there is currently no Tile Rendering support for C4D.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Ryan! Yes, that definitely helps. I’ll give that stuff a try.

I guess I have one more piece to this question:
I am investigating this for a client that is interested in Deadline, so I just want to be sure I have all the information correct.

  1. With Max Tile Rendering, do you have to manually stitch the image back together in Photoshop?

  2. So, no Tile Rendering for C4D means there is no possible way to render a single image across a network with Cinema?

Thank you in advance! Anything is appreciated : )

Depending on the image format, Deadline can reassemble the image automatically after the tiles finish rendering. The list of supported formats can be found under the Tiles tab in the 3dsmax submission window.

Right. Currently with Deadline there is no way of doing this.

Thank you again, Ryan. You guys are really quick at answering questions on here. On many forums, even for specific software, often no one gets back to you. Thanks!
