Before Jigsaw rendering came along we had our own ‘Crops Tile Rendering’ feature which allowed artists to very quickly send off a tile render of a region. It didn’t magically put it back into the original render frame unfortunately but it was very easy to use.
Currently doing a tiled region render involves navigating the unnecessarily complicated Jigsaw Tile mode.
Can we have it so when the Tile mode is set to Region we have a checkbox that says “Use Tiles” and this uses the standard X*Y tiles rendering? And an option (if not on blowup or crop) to composite on original render size?
Or a new tile mode which is just “TILED REGION” with the option to assemble on original size.
Also an option to get the VRay (insert other renderer flavours here) render region too could be nice, as percentage not absolute pixels so if you change the resolution for production rendering it would adjust automatically.
Sounds like we could make a new option that reuses the existing Jigsaw submission code. It would simply set up a single Jigsaw region definition with the position and tiling settings, and it would not complicate the SMTD Functions any further… After all, your complaint is about the complexity of the UI, not the functionality itself.
Exactly… I’d love to see a striped down version of the SMTD, it’s got fairly bloated and tbh we only touch a handful of settings once we’ve set up the default values. We’ve automated a lot of our submissions and got magic buttons for automatically doing prepasses for tile rendering / fly-through animations / simulations. I’m going to make a simplified dialog at some point which is basically…
[group]
[priority]
[Submit Simulation Job] (this will know what plugins are in the scene and figure out what it should do and set limit groups etc…
[Submit Render Job] (will detect if it’s an animation or still and automatically submit the prepass for LC/IR/SSS and submit as tiles if it’s over a certain size. )
Thanks
Dave
PS - Congrats on the little one Bobo if I haven’t said it already!
