Shotgun Versions created by Deadline are blank

I am testing the Shotgun/Deadline integration for my studio. First I submitted Nuke 6.3v5 and Maya 2016 (Redshift as the renderer) jobs through the Monitor. A Shotgun version would be generated, and it would be linked to the proper asset. However, the version would be blank. The “Path to Movie” and “Path to Frames” fields in Shotgun were not filled in.

I then tried the “Create/Upload Movie” from Draft Options in the Integration tab. I had the same result. However, for the Maya task, the “Path to frames” field would be filled up to the directory where the frames were located. The frames were not part of the path in the field. For the Nuke job, the field was still blank. Can someone explain the difference between “Create/Upload Movie” and “Create/Upload Filmstrip”? I cannot find anything in the documentation. How can I get media generated for a version from a job submitted through the Monitor?

I then installed the Maya submission script and submitted a job with “Create/Upload Movie” checked. Again I had a blank version. However, I noticed that the “Path to frames” field was filled out with Z:\TEST\asset\images\simpleTest001_RedShift_DeadlineTest.####.tif. However, I entered “Z:\TEST\Asset\Images\FarmTests\Maya2016\simpleTest0001_RedShift” into the Output Path in the Submit Job To Deadline GUI. The job generating the Quicktime is a Draft job. How come the Draft job did not get the proper Output Path?

Any help is appreciated.

Hello,

The create movie option will have draft create a movie from the images provided and the create film strip option will create a film strip from the images. Currently you need to choose one or the other.

Are you creating a version on submission or trying to upload to an existing version?

What version of Deadline are you using?

Can you attach the job report of the draft job please?

Thanks,

Charles

I am currently using Deadline 8.0.11.2, and I am trying to create a version on submission. I did manage to get a Quicktime generated and uploaded when I used the Maya submission script. I had to open the Project Window inside of Maya and make sure the scene file was rendering images to the same Output Path that I used in the Deadline GUI. The Draft job must be pulling the path from inside of the Maya file. Maybe the Render Settings?

I am still having issues when submitting via the Monitor. I will see if I can get a log file for you.

Interesting. Submitting a Maya job with the “Create/Upload Movie” option checked does not generate a Draft job. Check out the attached image.

Okay, I looked at the Job Reports. I do see a Draft Event Plugin job. I am attaching the job report to this post.

I can re-create the issue when submitting Maya jobs from the Monitor. Looks like a bug which I will report.

Cool. Good to know I wasn’t going crazy!

This seems to be happening with Nuke jobs as well. When I submit a Nuke job, no Draft job is created. When I looked at the Job Report for the DraftEventPlugin, I do see this error message:

I will have to test with the Nuke Submit Script.

Yes. Something similar is happening with the Nuke jobs. When I submit a Nuke job with the Submission Script, media will be generated for the Shotgun version. Under the Job Options tab, you need to have “Submit Write Nodes As Separate Jobs” selected. Of course, under the Integration tab, you need to have “Create/Upload Movie” or “Create/Upload File Strip” selected after you connect to Shotgun.

Anyway, using the Shotgun Integration with the Monitor results in blank versions for Nuke and Maya. In general, should I use a submission script if I want to use the Shotgun Integration?

Yes, if you want to use Shotgun integration you should use the integrated submitters. The issues with submitting from the monitor will be fixed in Deadline 8.1. The problem is that the output file names are internal to the scene and when submitting from the Monitor they cannot be found which is throwing the error both of you are receiving.

Charles

Okay. Good to know! Thanks for the reply!
