Slave Not Picking Up Job

Hello

I have a Mac Pro hosting the Repository and have also installed the Client/Slave on it. The Slave is up and running.

On my MacBook Pro I submit a Maya job (thanks Ryan) and the Monitor shows the Job in the queue. I can see the Slave listed in the Monitor which is idle and will not pick up the Job. I launched the Slave on my MacBook and it immediately got to work.

What should I check to establish why my Mac Pro Slave is not picking up the Job please.

Regards

Chris

The first thing to try would be the Slave Availability filter in the slave list toolbar in the Monitor (the green icon second from the left in the toolbar). Enable the filter by pressing the button, then select the job in the job list. If the Mac Pro slave is removed from the list, then we know it’s a job setting that is preventing it from picking up the job (pool, group, whitelist/blacklist, etc).

If the Mac Pro slave is still in the list, then something else, like file permissions, could be the problem. This test should help narrow things down.

Thanks!

Hi Ryan

I followed your suggestion and checked the availability of the Slave in the Monitor when the filter is applied. When the job was selected the Slave was still available. I checked the log on the Slave and it showed some access denied errors to particular files in the Repository. I selected the DeadlineRepository folder, displayed the folder information, unlocked the padlock and reapplied ‘Apply to enclosed items…’ to ripple the permissions again through all the enclosed items.

The Mac Pro Slave immediately picked up the queued Job and started at it (with vigour!).

I sense I’m slowly making progress. Thanks for your support.
