Slaves idle after "Lightning: Opening Renderer"

Hi

I am currently rendering an exterior walkthrough scene on 3DS Max 2010+vray 2.40 on 4 systems. The render is being done with pre-rendered IR+LC maps. The config of the systems are :

Repository / Slave : i5 760 2.60 Ghz
Slave 1 : i7 (4770k) 3.10 Ghz
Slave 2 : i7 860 2.80 ghz
Slave 3 : i5 750 2.60 Ghz

While the Repository system and Slave 1 are able to complete the job in 8 - 10 mins, Slave 2 and 3 take upto 30-35 mins to render the job. I checked the network cabling and also changed to Cat 5 patch cords with no effect.

Essentially, what I notice is that at the stage of "Lightning: Opening renderer, these two systems are waiting (idle) for some time before they proceed to the next job of “Lightning: Multipass disabled”. The CPU usage at this time is almost nil (1-3 %). Similarly after “Prefiltering Light cache : done”, the systems again wait in idle mode.

I was wondering if there is any settings in the slave that is causing these systems to wait.

With Best Regards

Hello,

In our experience, the delay between that message and the actual render beginning is the time it is taking for any plugins to load, which are not reported to us by the software. I would recommend running the same job in the 3ds command submitter from within the monitor, and then posting those results. That should get us closer to the idea.

Cheers,

Dwight

Thanks Dwight

will do this and update the log file.
