Softimage|XSI Plugin Issues and New Renderers Support

Hi!

Whenever I click “Submit to Deadline”, the properties page always have random passes selected to begin with, and the submitted job render the Current Pass only unless I changed the settings in Deadline myself. Also, I don’t like the fact that it sometimes saves and submit itself when I click through the tabs.

Also, few new renderers like V-Ray, 3Delight, finalRender are coming (betas out), hope Deadline v3.0 would support all of them as well!

Hi Gary,

Whenever I click “Submit to Deadline”, the

properties page always have random passes

selected to begin with, and the submitted

job render the Current Pass only unless I >> changed the settings in Deadline myself.

We try to set the selected passes based on which passes are set to be rendered. When you say that the pass selection is random, do you mean that the selected passes keeps changing when you open and close the submission dialog for the same scene?

Which version of XSI are you using? We know that since 6.0, a lot of the scripting API has been changing, and it could be that this worked fine in an earlier version. Also, which version of Deadline are you using?

Also, I don’t like the fact that it

sometimes saves and submit itself when I

click through the tabs.

You mean that when you click through the tabs in the submission script, a job gets submitted to Deadline? That’s a strange problem that we’ve never encountered before. Can you post the exact steps you follow to reproduce this problem?

Also, few new renderers like V-Ray,

3Delight, finalRender are coming (betas

out), hope Deadline v3.0 would support

all of them as well!

Depending how the renderers work with XSI, they may already work with Deadline. For example, with 3dsmax, as long as the necessary plugins are installed on all the render nodes, pretty much any 3dsmax renderer will work with Deadline. However, if they work like they do with Maya, then more work may need to be done to support each individual renderer.

If you get the chance to test this out, let us know if you have any luck using these different renderers with XSI and Deadline.

Cheers,
