Starting and Stopping Deadline Manager

Well, we were over here troubleshooting stuff today (specifically: How/why we broke Fu5.2b rendering) and needed/wanted to restart the Deadline Manager to eliminate unadressed variables.

Went to look for a service on the server running the manager expecting to see a manager service.  Nothin'.

Restarting the server is a bit of a process that I like to avoid, since it is a domain controller and it hosts a variety of other licenses/services as well so I am just wondering how I can go about restarting the Deadline manager without restarting the server?

Thanks,

J

There is no "manager" There is only the repository. The best analogy I can think of is its like a giant "whiteboard" with a list of tasks and lists of slaves. And each slave goes up to the board and looks if there is a task to do and then writes down what he's going to do, so when the next slave takes a look to see what to do, he see what the other slave is doing.

The "whiteboard" holds all the settings (users pools tasks) and the "state" of the slaves and jobs.

I won't talk about the down sides of this system at the moment, but they are similar to any office working without a manager.

That asside. You don't need to restart anything except the file server hosting the repository. All settings in the repository are accessed through deadline monitor.

Ben.

I'm sure the frantic guys can give you a better explaination once they return from Siggraph.
