Simples… currently Draft Assembler doesn’t support vrimg files.
Heh. I’ll add this forum thread to the issue to pad its numbers. 
Meanwhile I use .exr files for the same purposes. Draft works good with it

Working in a new place, but would still like to see this, would be useful for rendering very large images with deep samples.
