Tile rendering and Vray VFB

We are testing deadline to see if we can replace both Backburner a Vray DR with it, while single frames render just fine using vray VFB, when we try to use TILE RENDERING several issues appear:

  • Since Vray disables individual render elements in the RE dialog to prevent Max from allocating memory for the render element bitmap, (they render fine in the Vray VFB), deadline assumes that the elements are disabled and doesn’t save them.

-We use linear workflow with vray, if we render the frame with one machine, deadline saves the image with the correct gamma setting (you see it the same as in the Vray VFB), but if we use TILE RENDERING, then the image is rendered and assembled with an incorrect gamma setting (too dark), the only way around this is to set output gamma to 2.2, but then you will have to manually override gamma settings every time you render and save a whole frame…which is not very practical.

our gamma settings in Max are as follows:

Input Gamma 2.2
Output Gamma 1.0

And we set Vray color mapping this way:

Type: Linear Multiply
Dark multiplier: 1.0
Bright multiplier: 1.0
Gamma: 2.2

All this is on Max 2009 64bits and Vray 2.00.02

Thanks

Hi Patricio,

I don’t think the Tile Rendering feature works with render elements that are rendered through Vray’s frame buffer. Deadline just lets the vray frame buffer do its thing. We should see if we can support this in a future release.

For the gamma issue, are you currently setting a padding size for the tiles? If you are, try setting it to 0 to see if it helps. There is currently a limitation where padding a tile seems to result in the gamma values getting ignored.

Cheers,
