Tiles not lining up

Hi,

I’ve had great luck until I turned on the tile padding. I need the padding because the Final Gather shows up without it. My final image is 2550x1650. The 9 tiles are all 850x550. There is 25px of padding.

The problem doesn’t seem to be the stitcher. It puts the tiles together fine, it’s that the middle and bottom rows are rendering overlapping parts. I’ve uploaded a cropped part of the final image.

Please let me know if I’m using a wrong setting or something.

Thanks

There was a bug in 3.0 with the padding option that we believe we have addressed for the upcoming 3.1 release. I’m not in the office today, so I’ll try to verify this tomorrow. I’ll use the same resolution, tile, and padding options you’ve specified to see if it works with our working version. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Cheers,

  • Ryan

Thanks for the help. I can’t belive how quick the support is.

Yup, this works fine in our current working version, so the problem will be fixed for the 3.1 release (which, depending on how the beta period goes, should be released in March).

I’ve put in a request to become a beta tester. But if I can’t, is there any kind of work around for the padding issue?

Thanks.

The problem was in our compiled 3dsmax plugin code, so there isn’t a workaround at the moment. We can definitely get you on the beta program though!

Hello Ryan,

I have the same problem with Maya/Mental ray. It appears the tiles for shadows and final gather look different from tile to tile.
I attached an example tile render file.
tileing_maya.zip (1.67 MB)

Here’s a couple threads that explain how to use FG with tile rendering. It’s not that the tiles are lining up incorrectly, it’s that the creating of the FG map for each tile results in “lines” appearing at the seams.

Hope this helps!

Just curious,

Why don’t the seams show up in a region render? How is a region different than a tile?

Thanks.

The seams show up when assembling the individual tiles, because the FG calculations along the edges of the tiles can be different. A standard region render doesn’t involve any assembly, thus no seams.

This is good to know! We create FG maps for all our renders so that works perfect.
I will give it a try this evening.

Thanks,

F

Hello Ryan,

I ran a Tiling test with Mental ray and it appears to have the off screen Glow effects problem. If the glowing object is not in within one of the tiles, the glow effect doesn’t process.
Unfortunately this is the same case if you have two glowing objects and one goes off screen, the intesity for the first object decreases.
Need to start looking at other glow alternatives.
The final gather worked great though!

Thanks,
