Unable to use the floating license which was generated for Thinbox Deadline 10.2.0.10

Hi,

The following steps were done for setting up a Thinkbox Deadline Farm :

  1. Create/Verify a AWS Thinkbox account by activating the credit/debit card. Was then allowed to download the latest set-up for AWS Thinkbox Deadline 10.2.0.10.

  2. Created a new repository for the same and imported all necessary configurations (pools etc) from the previous repository. The earlier repo was 10.1.17.4 which was only using <10 nodes.

  3. Created the Floating license server (linux virtual machine). Used the existing mongodb server for this.

  4. Uploaded the mac address and hostname of my license server (linux virtual machine) to the AWS floating license page and generated the Thinkbox.lic file.

  5. Executed the service to start the thinkboxls service

When i run the “lmgd lmstat” command from the license server, the last line says the following:

“(lmgrd) Failed to open the TCP port number in the license.”

Is this why my deadline workers are still listed as “FREE” instead of “PERMANENT” in the license field?

Note :

  • firewalld is stopped/disabled.
  • My license server and mongodb server both are the same (linux vm)
  • mongodb runs at 27018 port while license server at 27008

Deadline 10.2.0.10 doesn’t need a license to run, so it never looks for a license server. The license file generator is only up to help out folks who can’t upgrade their Deadline installs yet.

You’re good to go without a license server or license file.

If you’ve got any questions about how Thinkbox products are now free of charge please take a look at this AWS Media Blog.

Awesome. Really delighted to learn about this. Thank you Justin!
