Just a small wish i stumbled over. I am currently generating partitions that dont require a lot of CPU as mainly busy updating PFlow and Fume.
So i am working on the look already with the few ones that are finished already. There is this neat dialogue automagically loading all partitions
when selecting only one frame. In the current situation i would find it very helpful if the menu would have some kind of “look for newly finished
partitions” button to add them as they are popping up in the folder.
If you click on the >> button in the PRT Loader in v1.5, you will find an option called “Add All ‘Save Partition’ Sequences…”.
What this one does is adding all files that WOULD be created based on the current output file name if you WOULD create partitions out of them based on the current Partition Count. In other words, you can create a PRT Loader IN ANTICIPATION of future partitions. Then just hit the “Ignore Missing Particles” in the Main Controls rollout and you can render whatever is ready while ignoring whatever is still not there.
Or you could use the “Don’t Render Missing Files” button in the Particle Counts rollout of the PRT Loader to disable any sequences with missing files…
In earlier versions of Krakatoa, you would select the first entry in the PRT Loader and press the Add… button again. The prompt about adding partitions would appear again and you would get whatever is ready, then repeat later to add even more sequences as they become available.
I was trying the “Add saved” entry. But i currently got two seperated setups. One for the Fume + PFlow stuff and the krakatoa one and they got different outputsettings (as i am holding the world record for “unintentionally overwritten sequences of any kind per week” ). Hence it would add completely different sequences that i was about to load.
Would work tho to set it up right once and then watch it update. Good one.
What i was doing now was removing all the sequences, hit add, select the first frame and then hit yes to get all currently available ones. I was hoping for a “watch folder” like feature to hit update and
it would check if for any of the loaded partitions new ones have been added. As it could also be that i create 10 and later decide, hey lets make it 20…looks better
Nothing major. Just something that got me stumbling in this shot.
Btw…a propos UI. Due to non-fx business recently i had skipped a few betas…and boy…am stunned. It looks better, it feels better, generally just makes sense and is damn quick to use. I still gotta catch up with tricks and jump cuts And all that in an MXS rollout…i bow deep.
Here is a prototype of the ultimate Partition Loader dialog.
See if you can figure out how to use it
Just drop the two files from the zip into the \Krakatoa\Scripts folder and restart Max.
It will be invoked if you select a partition when adding a file, or if you select one or more partitions on the PRT Loader’s list and use the [>>] menu’s Update Selected Partitions option. By default, it will allow you to select only existing sequences, but you can optionally switch it to allow future sequences to be added, too. It has all sort of range, pattern and filter options and should be fun to use.
Also note that the adding of the first partition sequence and the rest of the sequences will now create two separate Undo Records, so if you loaded the rest of the partitions and then changed your mind, you can simply click Undo once.
I don’t want to make the PRT Loader update automagically by looking into a folder - it can be rather dangerous as you never know who is writing what where…
But this improvement should be rather useful for updating your partitions. PRTLoader_Update_Partitions.zip (20.6 KB)
