We have installed deadline 3.1 this week, and have this strange problem using 3dsMax. We use the new submit max to deadline script, and have max 2008 installed on 64bit Win XP Pro workstations.
Opening the limit groups in max in the submission GUI, we’ve seen first still the old limit groups mixed with the new ones. When trying to update this list using the button which is provided, it all goes well untill we try and submit the job: Some of the slaves still look for an old limit group. So we tried to open up the job, and there we can see in the file the old limit group is still present!
3dsmax2008 64bit
only 64bit
The 3dsmax2008 64bit limit group shouldn’t be there. It seems for some reason that the limit group (before a refresh of the limit group list in max) which was checked is still present in it’s cache. Reinstall of deadline / rebooting the system, restarting the slaves all didn’t help.
Is there a solution for this problem, or is this problem known?
Just to confirm, the issue is that a Limit Group that used to exist (but doesn’t anymore) is showing up in the Submit to Deadline dialog in Max, and is then getting applied to the Job? I tried replicating this issue locally, and was unable to get the same behaviour. It’s possible that the issue has already been fixed internally, or that I’m just not breaking it correctly
One thing to try would be to clear the sticky settings that were saved by the Submit To Deadline script. You can find these in [max install dir]\plugcfg\SubmitMaxToDeadline.ini. I’d recommend making a backup copy of this file before changing anything, in case it breaks the submission script somehow. Once you have done that, remove the LimitGroups entries that refer to the old Limit Group (assuming there are some in there). Failing that, try renaming the file to something else (so that a new file will get created next time the script runs) – this should clear all the saved settings.
If you are still experiencing this problem after doing this, we’ll have to dig a bit deeper to figure out why those old limit groups are still kicking around.
Indeed!
I’ve found the settings however in Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\2008 - 64bit\enu\plugcfg
but 've backupped and deleted the ini file as you’ve told me, rebooted max and the scenes are well submitted.
