vray and maya 2010 problem

Vray is rendering fine when its local. When I submit to deadline, theres no error and shows task is complete. Though there no frames rendered. I do see this error on each rendernodes.

0: INFO: Deadline is ignoring error: “Error: Could not read V-Ray environment variable “VRAY_FOR_MAYA2010_MAIN_x64”. Please re-install.” because plugin setting StrictErrorChecking is enabled and this error is not usually fatal.
0: STDOUT: Error: Could not read V-Ray environment variable “VRAY_FOR_MAYA2010_MAIN_x64”. Please re-install.
0: STDOUT:

any thoughts?

Thanks

Stating the obvious, but have you tried doing what the error message suggests? The error is coming from V-Ray itself and not from Deadline and is telling you the environment variable pointing at the location of V-Ray for Maya was not set correctly on that machine, so a reinstall of V-Ray on the slave might fix the issue.

When you say V-Ray is rendering fine when local, do you mean “local to the slave” or “local on your submitting workstation”?

Did you install VRay while any of the Deadline applications were still running (including the Deadline Launcher in the system tray)? If so, it’s possible that the environment variable was set correctly, but Deadline isn’t recognizing it. Try restarting the machine so that everything is “refreshed” to see if that makes a difference.

Local to the slave and workstation works just fine. restarting did clear up the environment variable error. Vray doesn’t seem to see the license when it comes to rendering through deadline. I get Error: could not obtain a license (-98) because plugin setting stricterror checking is enabled and this error is not usually fatal.

Pretty sure this could be a vray issue. but any other thoughts would be great

Deadline doesn’t control how vray is licensed, so it’s probably that vray just isn’t configured properly to find the license server. If you want to post the full render log, that might give us more information. Just right-click on the job in the Monitor and select Job Reports -> View Log Reports.
