Vray vrscene per frame

I was wondering if there are any plans to add support for vray’s vrscene-per-frame option. It’s the same concept as mental ray outputting MI’s per frame. We recently had a case where per-frame vrscenes were needed but I’m not sure how to render this with deadline. I’m not positive how mental ray handles this in it’s command line and was just about to search vrays options for support there in hopes I could add it to the current vray submission/plugin. Any help would be appreciated!

We can definitely look at supporting this. I’m having trouble though actually outputting a separate vrscene file per frame from within Maya. I’m just trying to figure out what the format of these vrscene files would look like. For example: scene_0000.vrscene, scene_0001.vrscene, etc…

Can you let us know what the format is, and if possible, post a very simple set of vrscene files for 5 or 10 frames?

Thanks!

Actually, don’t worry about posting the files - we figured it out. The ability to render separate vrscene files per frame will be supported in Deadline 4.0, which is scheduled for release this month.

Excellent, thank you very much.

Something interest to consider, though I have no tested this personally. My boss said that after exporting the scenes/frame he was able to simply select the first one in the sequence during vray submission as his “vrscene input” and have it render correctly through Deadline. Again I haven’t tested this myself but it might save you folks some time.

Maybe vray is “smart” enough to recognize that there is a sequence of vrscene files and handles the situation automatically. The way we’ve implemented it, the appropriate vrscene file for the frame is explicitly passed to vray, and no frame range is specified. This is how we do it for mental ray standalone and it works really well.
