Hi,
I am trying to set up our deadline 3 (soon to be deadline 4) farm to render c4d (this works fine) with vue 8 (this doesn’t).
Locally on the machines, everything is running ok, but with the command line launch of C4D vue 8 doesn’t start up an di end up with black frames.
Anybody any idea on how to go on? It would be very much appreciated ; )
Greetings, Ubbo Ronhardt
Hi Ubbo,
A couple questions:
- Is the Vue plugin for C4D installed on each render node?
- When a C4D scene file uses Vue, is there a separate vue file that is created alongside the c4d file?
- When you submit the job to Deadline, do you enable the option to submit the C4D file with the job?
Just to confirm, when you say “command line launch of C4D”, are you running tests from the command line without using Deadline? Or are you using Deadline in this case?
Thanks!

Cool.

OK, so I guess that means that the Vue data is embedded in the C4D file, correct? The reason I asked this was because… (see 3)

…if there was a separate vue file that contained the vue data, and you have the option enabled to submit the scene file with the job, the vue file wouldn’t be submitted alongside the c4d file to Deadline. So when the slaves would go to render it, they wouldn’t be able to find the vue data. Since that doesn’t appear to be the case, I wouldn’t expect this option to have a negative effect either way.

Thanks for confirming. Here is something to try:
i) Copy a C4D scene file that uses Vue to one of your render nodes.
ii) Open a command prompt and try to render the scene file using C4D’s command line renderer. You should use command line arguments that are similar to what Deadline is using, which you can find in the render log for the job (right-click on the job in the Monitor and select Job Reports -> View Log Reports). If you’re not sure which arguments to use, just post one of these logs and we can recommend which arguments to use.
What we’re doing here is testing to see if the problem is related to Deadline or not. If you run this test and get the same results (blank frames), then at least we know the problem isn’t on Deadline’s end.
Cheers,
Sweet, i’ll do that on Thursday.
Thanks, Ubbo
Ah, IT is switching over to Deadline 4 and Win 7.
So I’ll try in 2 weeks again ; )
