What to look for for Deadline - Shotgun integration?

I’m sorry to post another Shotgun question here, but I didn’t want to hijack any of the existing threads…

So, my question is, I need to be able to have a job when it starts to update its status in the Shotgun database and when it successfully renders, again, update the status to “finished” or whatever I setup.

So, what is the best way to tackle this?

This is a bit new to me - integrating Shotgun to Deadline (I have integrated Shotgun to 3ds Max already, so I have some Shotgun API experience), that’s why I’m asking here as I’m sure someone has already done it.

Thanks a lot in advance!

We’re actually working on Shotgun integration for 5.1, and the best way to do this is with an Event plugin. That way, you can have it trigger communication with Shotgun on job submission, and when the job completes.

Here is some documentation on event plugins:

Hi, Ryan,

yeah, I thought the events will be the right thing to look at, just wanted it confirmed by people more familiar with this connection.

Thanks again, I’ll take a look…

rrussell, is there any set time when we can expect this functionality built in to deadline? when is 5.1 going to be out you think? I thought this was to be available in 5.0? thanks!

We’re hoping to start the 5.1 beta around Siggraph. I can see how that press release may have been misleading. The system to support Shotgun integration was included in 5.0 - this is the Event Plugin system.
