This sounds familiar…

If you’re running 6-core chips then you need to make sure you are running the latest Autodesk hotfixes for 3dsMax.
When you update your machines, this will then break Deadline.
However PF have fixed this issue and here is the patch:

viewtopic.php?f=57&t=4132

However, I’m not sure why you are seeing the issue with Maya?
The Autodesk latest hotfix makes 6-core processors work as various Mental Ray dll’s were crashing as they can’t handle more than 16 cores, maybe Maya has the same issue as it also has similar Mental Ray dll’s and also now includes backburner, which is what was causing the error on the Deadline system and the latest Autodesk hotfix back ports an upgrade to the backburner system, so actually, it probably all makes sense.

One way to test this problem is to turn OFF hyperthreading and hence reduce your total CPU count to 12, if you’re running dual 6-cores machines. Then this particular slave will run fine, assuming you haven’t put the Autodesk hotfix on already.

Mike

we are running Max 2011, i will try to update everything and see how it goes

thanks

FYI.
The most recent Autodesk hotfixes were provided not just for Max2011, but also back ported to Max2010 and 2009 as Autodesk realises that a lot of studios are not running the latest version of their software.
Mike

the patches worked!
