windows client not finding the right path

well…i decided to move the repo under linux…and now things seems to work better…
i can render with the linux box and i can start and connect the monitor from a windows machine.
the problem now is that the path is not read from the win box in a correct way so the slaves don’t know where to write the output images…i mean the submitter has /mnt/DeadlineRepository/proj_name/images as path…so the linux box understand while the win no.

so how and where should i set the path so that is written in the right way from the submitter to let the win box write the images?
i tried to put in the submitter //192.168.0.10/mnt/DeadlineRepository/proj_name
but it reads wrong the same…
i think this is a admin issue…but i am not so good with that…prehas you can still give me a hint…

mat

thanks again

What we recommend for shared paths across different operating systems is to use UNC paths with Windows, and then mount them to a similar path on Linux. For example, say your output path was \server\output on Windows. You could then mount this as /server/output on Linux. In most cases, the software you are rendering with is smart enough to figure out the slashes and use the correct path.

In Deadline 3.1, we will be adding path mapping to some of our plugins (so far, we have it working for Maya and Nuke). Deadline will then try to swap paths from one OS with another. In the meantime, using the workaround mentioned above is the only option.

yeah Ryan i can render now…it tooks me a while to understand this king of “joke”…
by the way the mayabatch feature is available only under maya for windows?

couse inthe linux installation it is not present. is it possible?
thanks
mat

Heh, I actually wasn’t trying to make a joke.

When I was referring to the “software you are rendering with”, I meant software like Maya, Nuke, etc. Anyways, the mayabatch feature should be available. Is it not available in the submitter? Are you submitting from the monitor or from within maya?

for joke i was meaning tricks:)

and mayabatch button is present…but i haven’t seen in the linux maya bin folder the mayabatch file…so is it possible to use the plugin mayabatch to render on linux machine too?

then often i receive error like i cannot create file…and the dispatcher reque the job and the other box render it…but the 2 box render however…couse i can see the file with the default viewer

this seems to happen couse sometimes the slave linux or the slave win are stalled for some seconds and then they begin renderign again…so is there a way to stop stalling of the slaves?

thanks again
mat

this is an output of the slave

then another problem is that deadline is taking a lot of net resources…at least it seems…and kde is getting mad…may be possible?

mat

Now I understand, thanks for clarifying!

For the MayaBatch plugin, you need to point to mayabatch.exe for the windows machines and maya for the linux machines. For the MayaCmd plugin, you need to point to Render.exe for the windows machines and Render for the linux machines. Note that you can specify a semicolon separated list of paths in the plugin configurations.

I’m not sure why the slave would appear stalled and then normal again. Is the date/time of each machine different? That could cause the problem. In the Repository Options in the Monitor, you can configure the SNTP settings to sync up Deadline’s date/time with a particular machine.

Cheers,
