wishes for my sanity

I waited until I had a chance to install 4.0sp1 for production as a few of my wishes were already features before I even asked for them.

  • Layout Preset Buttons. I often switch between seeing “all users/active jobs only” to “just my recently completed jobs”. This requires too many clicks. I’d rather set layouts with preset buttons.

  • Support windows 7 large dpi. I have it set to 125% and all the dropdown lists are messed up.

  • Ribbon? The toolbars are starting to look rather crowded

  • workstation/clustering mode. This is an oldie. I haven’t tested if the Service mode works better now. Basically, support all tasks that don’t have a start or end, interactive rendering, distributed bucket rendering etc. And have a workstation mode where dl uses less resources when another user is using the workstation.

  • support directory services: ldap

I’ll think of more soon.

Ben.

Layout Preset Buttons: This is currently on the road map for the release following Deadline 4.1 (it was originally on the 4.1 roadmap, but got bumped due to unexpected development that took longer than expected).

Support windows 7 large dpi: We’ve fixed internally this for Large and Extra Large fonts in XP, so I imagine this will work for Vista/Windows 7 as well. We’ll have to test this out.

Ribbon: Mono doesn’t support WPF at the moment, so until it does, we likely won’t support the Ribbon interface.

workstation/clustering mode: We’ve been getting more requests about mental ray satellite rendering in particular, and Deadline really needs a clustering mode to support this properly. This is also currently on the road map for the release following Deadline 4.1.

support directory services: We will be looking at ldap for Deadline 5.0.

Cheers,

  • Ryan
