Unable to render fumefx with deadline 8.0.1.0

Hi guys,

we just migrated to deadline 8.0.1 and we have encountered the following problem:

after we submit a fumefx render we get the error:

Error: 3dsmax: Failed to load max file: “C:/Users/svc_deadline/AppData/Local/Thinkbox/Deadline8/slave/bottle03/jobsData/574eb3cc14fa291cd8e83ba5/rnd_test_test_fx_testFFX_ih_v001.max”
2016/06/01 15:11:05 ERR: [07144] [05492] DLL <C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2016\plugins\Afterworks\FumeFX\FumeFX.dlo> failed to initialize. Error code 126 - The specified module could not be found.

The error indicates that a dlo module is missing but after we log onto that specific machine we are able to load the scene file in max and it renders without any problem.

Also we just tested a deadline 7 submission of the exact same scene - no errors again.

Any idea what might be causing this?

update on the issue:

the only solution we’ve found so far is to choose render->Ignore Missing DLL Errors in DL submitter - 3ds Max.

Then the slave is able to render output.

Can I ask if Max was run on the same node, running as the same user as was running the slave when the job was run? The biggest issue here is that max simply will not load without those dlls.

Actually I believe that the error message means that FumeFX.DLO itself was found, but error 126 shows that it failed to load another library it depends on. For example, FumeFX.DLO depends on Afterworks.dlu, Fusionworks.dlr (for atmospheric rendering), VoxelFlow.dll (the actual simulator) which are installed under \plugins\AfterWorks\Common, and of course it depends on a bunch of Windows and Max libraries. Sounds like it fails to load one of them when in slave mode. No idea why.

I tested a new internal build last night and it fixed the Mental Ray issue, which we think is also the identical issue here. Public release soon. Hold tight.

we installed the fix and now we dont have the dll error,however the fumeFX is not rendering anymore T_T.We made simple scene with fume cache+plane and the plane is rendering fine ,but fume is not.Local it renders fine O_o.Renderign is with vray 3.30.05.

p.s We tried to cache f3d and render the cache with vray volume and it works fine.

Could you share this simple test scene with us and also provide a log report from using this new version? We will try and reproduce here.

Sorry for slow response; you were on my list, but my list got really long :wink:

Yes, you need to make sure all clients and repo have been updated to 8.0.3.0, otherwise if you have “Automatic Updates” enabled, then the clients would be getting downgraded from the repo every time they restart. On that note, make sure you restart all slave applications on all machines once the 8.0.3.0 update has been installed. You should just need to restart the Slave application, but if in doubt, restart the machines.

Looking at the log that Veso sent through, the client is still running an older version which would explain why your still seeing the errors:

Let me know how it goes once all machines + repo are on 8.0.3.0. If it still errors after a restart, can you send through a new log and I’ll review.
