deadlineStartupMax2017.max

So… farm was crashing with “Error: 3dsmax: Failed to load max file:”
Out of curiosity, I replaced deadlineStartupMax2017.max file in my appdata folder with empty max file.
Now everything seems OK.

Is it safe to do this?

Hello,

Can you send over a job report with this error? I would like to see what the error is that you are referring to so I can better answer your question.

Cheers,

Dwight

So… it was mr missing dialog popup.
But, we installed MR.
Turning on ignoring DLL worked.

Mmh… I’m having the same issue here.
I actually didn’t install MR (as I never use it)

Is this something that could be fixed in the new release?
As it is indeed solved when ignoring missing DLL’s… but these shouldn’t even be loaded (everything is rendered with Vray) and with this option enabled I won’t know when slaves miss plugins that are actually essential…

This is happening because 2016 stored mr related data as custom attribute.
It is a part of step of decoupling MR from 3dsMax.
All object made in 2016 has this data.
Therefore, if you open the file in 2017 without MR, it will look for MR.

You have only two choice
1)Install MR.
2)Turn of the Ignore Dll option.

aah, good to know, thanks for that background info.
I’ll have a look if it helps to just merge the geo into a clean 2017 file.

That’s very interesting… I can bring up the idea of ignoring specific DLL errors, or maybe better would be to optionally scrub out that metadata as we do with State Sets. We can maybe check first that you’re not using Mental Ray.

Sounds like a good option. On the other hand, if it’s a temporary thing (due to AD phasing out MR) then the temp solution of ignoring .dll’s might be enough for now.

Yeah, after looping the idea though the dev team, doing the DLL checks is both rather brittle and prone to changing with versions. We’ll ride the wave of ‘ignore errors’ for now.

Heads up for others, there is an Autodesk KB article for this if you hit it:

knowledge.autodesk.com/support/ … -2017.html

This is where MR is definitely installed, but it’s still throwing errors.
