Corona Tile Rendering Error

Hi,

I’m doing a bit of testing with Corona at the moment, but it doesn’t seem to like submitting as a tile render job (jigsaw or normal) when loading a precalculated UHD cache file - I get a lot of key value pair not supported in the log and all the render elements are stripped from the submission.

It submits tile jobs without a problem when Corona is set to render and discard the cache, but doing it this way leaves the final image with slight differences in the rendered tiles.

Looks like it is trying to set the UHD cache as an output, which is then killing all the render elements.

Tried it on Deadline 9.0.6.1 with Max 2016 and Deadline 10.0.3.2 with Max 2018

Hmm. I noticed your on SP3 when we’re up to 10.0.9. Did some research and that OutputFilenameXTileY has been around a good long while (2+ years). I’m not sure if that error is involved here.

Now, tile rendering can sometimes cause some trouble without pre-calculated lighting. Do you know if there could be other lighting calculations being done outside of what’s provided in the UHD cache?

I’ve been trying to diagnose this, but still not finding a solution. As soon as you set it to load a UHD cache, Deadline goes crazy with the key-value errors and strips the extra paths.

I thought it might have something to do with the Corona Frame Buffer, but switching it off made no difference.

Corona should load the UHD file and then do a progressive render until it hits the noise level limit. The UHD is just to prevent the tiles having slight variations in brightness.

I have noticed though that the SMTD script is still looks like it’s doing something with purifying render element names, even though the option is disabled.

Also tried fiddling with the Pathing Options, but no joy.

I’ll post in the Corona forum and see if they have any ideas.

What version of Corona are you using? Official support for Corona 1.7 will be delivered once DL 10 SP10 is released.

I gave it a test with Corona 1.6 and it still had all the errors. I seem to be able to use the Corona CXR file as an output file though, which seems to auto generate it’s elements outside of Deadline.

I’ve sent a scene to the Corona devs to look into a bit more.

OK, got to the bottom of this. See attached patched _Functions.ms file, which will work in latest DL 10 SP11 only. Un-zip and overwrite same named file in: “<your_repo>/submission/3dsmax/Main/SubmitMaxToDeadline_Functions.ms”

We now no longer include monitor render output paths for renderer specific “cache” files when doing any kind of tile/jigsaw rendering, so that it doesn’t cause any issues with DTA further downstream.
