Slave Launch Problem

Hi Guys,

I’m evaluating Deadline and so far have been struggling to get any slave to render. I have a similar problem with 3ds max 9 or Maya 8.5. Everything seems to work fine until the slave tries to spawn the relevant app then the slave hits an exception such as:

Exception Details

RenderPluginException – child_process::launch: Failed to assign process “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 9\3dsmax.exe” to job object: Access is denied.

RenderPluginException.Cause: JobError (2)

Exception.TargetSite: Void StartJob(System.String[])

Exception.Source: DeadlinePluginLoader

Exception.StackTrace:

at Deadline.Plugins.PluginLoader.StartJob(String[] auxiliaryFilenames)

at Deadline.Plugins.Plugin.StartJob(String jobUniqueName, String[] auxiliaryFileNames)

at Deadline.Slaves.SlaveRenderThread.RenderCurrentTask()

All machines are running on vista and I get the same error even for a slave running on the same machine as the monitor. I’ve tried to make sure permissions are setup correctly and as far as I can tell the slave exe should have permission to run 3dsmax.exe.

Any suggestions on how to debug this?

Thanks,

Simon Myszko

Hi Simon,

We ran into this problem with 3dsmax 9 during our initial tests on

Vista, and it had to do with permission issues. Deadline would render

fine under the administrator account, but not under the render-client

account we had setup. We installed the 3dsmax9 Extension 1 package

(which includes Productivity Booster), and the problem went away. We

haven’t tested Deadline with Maya on Vista yet, so it sounds like there

may be some more kinks to work out. Try rendering under an administrator

account in both cases to see if that makes a difference.

Cheers,
