Quicktime Generation -> Language Error?!

Hello,

I´m testing Deadline right now and getting pretty good results in 3dsmax and AfterEffects rendering!

But I´m having trouble generating quicktime movies out of the render results:

a)

Rendering a job with 3dsmax plus an Quicktime.

In addition Quicktime PRO 7.1.5. is installed on the machine; but does the system need it?

No quicktime

A movie is generated, but Deadline resubmits the job several times.

b) Deadline Monitor > “Submit Quicktime to Deadline”

Quicktime Renderer: Apple QuickTime. I press submit and get the additional Quicktime settings in german. If I press “Einstellungen” (settings) the dialog gets terminated and nothing happens. If I just press OK in this dialog Deadline Command BG returns:

Deadline Command BG 2.7 [v2.7.29178 R]

Submitting to Repository: \demian\render

Submission Contains the Following:

  1. Auxiliary File #1 (“C:\Deadline\temp\quicktime_plugin_info.job”)
  2. Auxiliary File #2 (“C:\Deadline\temp\quicktime_ExportSettings.xml”)

Error: DeleteOnComplete was specified as “Falsch”, but can not parse given text into a boolean value: falsch

    Parameter name: text (System.ArgumentException) (Deadline.Submission.DeadlineSubmitException)

“falsch” is german for “wrong”. Quicktime seems to return german boolean expressions.

Then I press OK and no task is generated.

The systems are Windows XP 64 bit - german…

Any ideas on this two errors?

    Thanks,

    Tim

Hi Tim,

For problem (a), it is possible to have Deadline ignore when the

Quicktime movie generator returns error code 128. The instructions to do

this can be found here. In the next release of Deadline, we will make it

easier to enable/disable this:

http://support.franticfilms.com/WB/?boardID=Frantic&action=9&read=840&fid=7

For problem (b), I’ve attached a patch so the submission script so that

boolean values aren’t saved in German, allowing Deadline to recognize

them. However, I’m unable to reproduce the problem with with pressing

the “settings” button in the addition quicktime settings dialog. Can you

open a command prompt on your machine, navigate to c:\deadline\bin, and

then run the following command:

DeadlineQuicktimeGenerator.exe -ExportSettings c:\test.txt

This will display the additional quicktime settings dialog, and will

save the results to c:\test.txt. I’m hoping that when you hit the

settings button now, any error that occurs will be dumped to stdout in

the command prompt. Give it a try and send us the error message if there

is any.

Cheers,

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for your quick answer!

  • The solution for (a) worked fine!
  • “DeadlineQuicktimeGenerator.exe -ExportSettings c:\test.txt” returns =“Error: Export dialog cancelled” and no txt-file in generated.

But I did an xml-export-setting on an english PC here and it seems to =work for 3dsmax and Deadline Submitter. It´s a workaround so far.

    Thanks,

    Tim

Hi,

Are the Quicktime setting always saved at C:\Deadline\settings\qt? Wouldn´t it be better to have the settings in the repository instead of having several setting on each workstation?

Regards,

Tim

The settings stored in c:\deadline\settings\qt are just some local

settings. The actual settings used to render the job are submitted with

the job to the repository.

Cheers,

Hi,

any update on that problem? I did try the new DeadlineQuicktimeGenerator.exe you were posting on the other quicktime post.

This is the log I got after the Quicktime settings dialog still gets terminated:

Caught exception from export settings dialog: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt (System. AccessViolationException)

Error: Export dialog cancelled

Regards,

Tim

Hi Tim,

We haven’t had any luck reproducing the problem on our end, which makes

it difficult to diagnose what the problem might be. The memory error

might be helpful though. We will continue to look into it and if we

figure anything out, we’ll post it here.

Cheers,

Hi,

I found the solution. It´s a quicktime error: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5555020

Open the Quicktime settings and set the video mode to “safe mode” [was “DirectX”…]!

Thanks,

Tim
