CUDA performace

Postby Chad » Wed May 20, 2009 4:59 pm

I've got a 8800GT on my machine, and with our CUDA plugins, I see a 20x-35x speed increase, but with EAFl, I'm seeing a 2x speed DECREASE. Is the button state backward? Or is EAFl just not as much an ideal case for CUDA on something like a 8800GT?

Oh, and the console is dumping out dozens of CUDA HW debug messages about detected devices and such. Like a lot.

Ah yes the debugging messages. I'll stomp those out.

In terms of the performance I'm not sure about the decrease. EAFL only really benefits when a large kernel is used, since there is significant extra cost attached to moving the image to GPU. Which size of blur are you using? Try an absolute blur of size 10 - 20 and see if it runs better then the regular version.

Does indeed. Crashes sometimes, but that's a different issue, not related to performance.

Good to know.
