3dsmax: Failed to create output directory

After a new years cleanup and a lot of updates we now get this
error message on systems that are running a service installation of deadline:

Blockquote
Failed to create output directory “X:\xxx” The path may be invalid or permissions may not be sufficient.
at Deadline.Plugins.PluginWrapper.StartJob(String& outMessage, AbortLevel& abortLevel)

the service logs on as a user that definitely has the permission to write in the specified folder.
Machines that are running the non service installation (with the same user) work just fine.
It is something related to the nature of being a service. But we just can’t figure out what it is.

OS is Win10

any suggestions?

A logged in user has different drive mappings than a service user. Do you have Tools > Configure Repository Options > Mapped Drives setup? The service user running the Deadline Launcher Service will use these settings to map the drive.

https://docs.thinkboxsoftware.com/products/deadline/10.0/1_User%20Manual/manual/repository-config.html?highlight=mapped%20drive#mapped-drives

If that is not the issue I would try isolating the submission from Deadline using the following documentation:

Charles

Thank you for your answer. We did the drive mapping. Still you were right since someone forgot to enter the domain in front of the user name ;).
