6.1.52340 Windows No log access with services

Running Deadline clients as a service will not display slave logs in the monitor.

Also unable to show slave on slave machines when running as a service and therefore still unable to view slave log in real time.

This is rather annoying and perhaps I’m not doing something right.

I haven’t tried this with 6.0 public release as I did not have the clients installed as a service before.

If installed as a service, is it possible to have the icons displayed in the taskbar as per normal client, when they not installed as a service? ie Launcher & Slave icons.

Cheers,

Tim.

I just had a look through the manual for services on Windows machines.

This info may help:-

User for the Deadline services is NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService
I have used ‘Everyone’ for sharing privileges, which allows this user to access the repository etc.
I’m running Windows Server 2008 R2 on each render machine
I’m using UNC paths for all job submissions etc

Having read the manual section again, I see that this is probably not the best method for my use of Deadline. However the need for slaves and repository machines to auto start Deadline is a must, without having to log on to Windows first.

I have been using 6.0 without services installed for Deadline, but have added Launcher, Monitor, Pulse to the Start up folder for Windows, which does exactly what I need, except for having to log on to Windows first.

What is the best method I should use please? It’s imperative that after a machine reboot (planned or otherwise), that the Slave auto starts without the need for a Windows log on first.

Cheers,

Tim.

The log problem was actually a regression in beta 2, and has nothing to do with the slave running as a service. This will be fixed in beta 3.
