7.1 - DR job schedule

Hi,

I asked a while ago if there could be a way to have a daily schedule for a Vray DR job (or any job for that matter, but a DR job is the most likely), so that it could be set to start and finish at specific times, and to be able to choose the schedule for week days and weekends, has this been added?

I basically would like to have my DR jobs start by hand when needed (so they are not keeping computes on when not used) and to automatically stop the job at the end of the day, and likewise not start/stop on weekends at all.

This would be very cool, as people often forget to suspend the DR job, and the machines then don’t shutdown all night.

Thanks,
Mark

Hey Mark,

In the job properties dialog in the Monitor, under Scheduling, you can specify a Start Time and an End Time, and then leave the Day Interval at 1 to do what you want on a daily basis. However, this is no control over which days the job will run.

Would this work for now? It will take some overhauling of the job scheduling settings to offer more control (like specific days to schedule the job for), and since this would likely be a breaking change, we would have to push it to the next major release (ie: Deadline 8).

Cheers,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Yes I saw this section, but it seems to have to use the start as well as the stop? Could the start have a tick box to not use, and then I could only select the stop, and have it always stop on all days at the same time?

This would be a good solution for now.

Mark

If you suspend the job, that will prevent it from starting. Only jobs in the Pending state would start.

hi

ok ill have to try this out. ill test tomorrow.

thanks

Hi,

Just tried a test job, and seems to work ok.

I’ll leave it set to start at 17:15, and stop at 17:20 each day. The job will be suspended normally if everyone remembers to stop it when they leave, so this will catch the job if left on past 17:00 and because it will normally be suspended, the start time will have no effect. If the job is left over the weekend for example, them the job will just boot machines for 5 minutes!

I think this is the best solution for now, ideally a better schedule for the job would be perfect but I know its a lot of work.
