After Effects - Multiple output modules render to one folder

We’re using multiple output modules in an After Effects project as to get a low res frame sequence and a higher res sequence. When I run the comp through AE the frames are rendered to their appropriate places (in this case a JPG folder and a PNG folder). When I submit through Deadline the frames are all rendered to the same folder (in this case the JPG folder). The other folder remains empty.

There are no errors or messages that lead me to believe anything else is wrong. I’ve attached a screenshot of the AE render queue in case that’s helpful. Has anyone else seen this?

Hello,

In looking into this, I do believe the issue is that we only specify one output when we send the command to render the job, but if you could send over a full job report, that would help us get a clearer answer on this issue. Thanks.

Thanks Dwight, I’ve attached a job report for you to take a look at. AE still renders both outputs but it renders them to the same folder.

Hello,

So in looking at over, it does look like only one path is being specified: -output “C:\Users\mtrender\AppData\Local\Thinkbox\Deadline6\slave\MT-RENDER06\jobsData\5378d28092c5c310443e2c67\AfterEffectsOutput_tempf6EEd0\TDL_ACT_03_CINDERPAN_MASTER_NUV_v29_[#####].jpg” so it’s not getting a path for the PNG side of the render. Can you try to leave the output line empty and see if we can grab it from the project file itself? Thanks

Hey Dwight. After a long silence it looks like this is still an issue but ONLY when submitting through the After Effects submission script. I’ve attached a sample AE CC 2014 project file where I render out the left side and right side of the comp to different folders. If I render from AE, works as expected but if I submit from AE the output modules write to the same folder AND one will overwrite the others as of Deadline 7.0.3. Submitting manually via the monitor AND not specifying an output file works.

Anything we can do to the submission script to help this?

Thanks.

Hello,

So I did some tests with Deadline 7.1.0.35 and AE CC 2014 internally here and I was able to get the files into the folders as I had set up. I am including two images, first the method I used when saving to get the different folders, and then how it appeared in my AE once I had set up the folders. Can you verify if your AE looks the same? Thanks.

Hey Dwight, yes our render queue’s look the same. I’m not using 7.1 here so maybe there was something fixed?

Hello,

The big difference I see from your image to mine is that mine actually shows the left\ and right\ folders in the output path, whereas yours do not. Are you using the check box in the path dialog and putting your different folders in the folder line? What I am looking to see your screenshot is the parts I have highlighted in the image below. Maybe we can get on a remote session to poke at this? If you’d like that, send an email to support@thinkboxsoftware.com and reference this forum post.
