Arnold cannot obtains single-user license

Hello,

I am reaching out to this forum because Autodesk Support has not been able to resolve the issue.
As specified in the title, I’m having some issues with the Arnold license manager.

Specifically, my setup includes:

  • Maya 2022.5.1
  • Arnold Renderer (MtoA 5.3.5.3)

The error pertains to obtaining the Arnold license. I have correctly followed the activation procedure indicated in this guide: Help
However, when Deadline initiates Arnold, the log shows that the login to the Autodesk ID account fails.

It seems that Arnold is unable to determine the mode in which it should run to correctly obtain the license. The log indicates that it is looking for a license server (RLM) that is not set within our farm.
I ask Autodesk if it was possible to have an RLM license, but they answered that the only license available from now on are Autodesk ID subscriptions - yes, I had to create X fake accounts and log them manually from the render nodes.
Of course in the Arnold License Manager I set the license priority as “Single-User”.

As part of our troubleshooting, we have:
Tried setting the environment variables ARNOLD_LICENSE_ORDER and ARNOLD_LICENSE_MANAGER to "clm"

Some notes:

  • The farm consists of blade servers and workstations all equipped with the latest version of Windows 10 available
  • The entire farm has the same version of the softwares
  • We are using Deadline AWS version 10.2.1.1
  • The same configuration works correctly with another machine (check RTF file attached)

Thank you to anyone who can help me.

Hi.

I am assuming:
You’re trying to render through Maya, correct? (Not standalone arnold)
You’ve logged into the render node and registered Arnold via the Arnold License Manager.

I think those env vars do not work if you’re using single-user licensing.

  • Can you please try un-registering Arnold and re-register it (on the render node)?
  • Can you please share the Arnold License Diagnostics output/file (arnold_diagnostics.log)?

According to the docs, there should be an Arnold config file in:
Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Autodesk\Arnold\
that shows the settings for the Arnold License Manager.

  • Can you please share the content of this file (from the render node)?

Hello Jarak,

Thank you for your response.
I’ve been contacted by Autodesk support again, and they told me it’s a bug with the License Manager and they issued RLM node-locked licenses. Now all the machines are working fine.

Just to let you know:

  • I tried unregistering and re-registering the single-user license, but nothing changed.
  • The Arnold Diagnostic file has no relevant problems in it.

Thank you

Glad it’s working (with RLM)! At least they finally let you know that it was a bug on their end…
