Hi,
Before installing Deadline we booted directly into Windows. Now there is an ASP.net user account and we are forced to click our regular username before entering Windows.
Is there a way to get rid of this so we can boot directly into Windows like before?
thanks!
How is anyone supposed to know what it was like before?
What os? xp pro? vista? Did you have auto-logon? Do you use a password to log in? Do you have a domain? Is fast user switching enabled? Do you know what you are doing?
Based on the guessing game, I'm going to suggest you use an admin account and go to the control panel/user accounts. click the advanced tab at the top, then the advanced button to get the Advanced user management.
Then in this new window, find the aspnet account and rightclick properties. Here you can check the 'disable account' checkbox.
This is the safest thing to suggest because you could always re-enable it if you needed to.
Installing deadline or .net 1.1 shouldn't have created this account. Installing IIS would create this account.
All of this is in the extensive windows help.
Also I mentioned the auto-logon and password, because you may have once had windows automatically logon. And now it doesn't. We do that also for our farm machines. The key here is you can't have a password or autologon doesn't work. Or AutoLogon got disabled somehow. So probably the aspnet account has been there all along and has nothing to do with the problem. But then again it is a guessing game.

Ben, thanks for the parts where you attempt to help troubleshoot this. I do that appreciate that. The condescending, witty/snotty attitude parts could be left out and you would seem much more helpful.
Yes, I forgot to say we are using XP Pro; Auto-logon was on; No pw to logon; No domain; Yes, fast user-switching is enabled.
This ASP.net account appeared after installing NET Framework 1.1 which is packaged with Deadline. Even this info appears in a Google search.
“Installing deadline or .net 1.1 shouldn’t have created this account.” Well, it does, and it was right after this that the auto-logon capability stopped. Go figure.
There is no “Advanced” tab on our User Accounts page. Yes, we are an administrator. Yes, SP2 for XP Pro is installed.
I’ll try your suggestions but if anyone else has info about this please jump in.
Thanks
well, disabling the ASP.Net account allows Windows to auto-logon again, but we still have to test if Deadline functions…
Hey Joe,
Deadline has no dependencies on ASP.Net accounts, and in fact this is the first we've heard of the situation you ran into. Disabling the ASP.Net account should not have any affect on how Deadline operates.

- Ryan
thanks, Ryan,
Curious then why dotnetfx.exe is packaged with Deadline?
Deadline runs on top of the .NET framework v1.1, which is installed by dotnetfx.exe.

thanks, Ryan
Sorry for sounding snide, but it was either guess what your set up is, or wait for more details, or just decide not to help. I'm also a little fed up with the general attitude that windows sucks when no one bothers to learn how to use it. (sorry for lumping your post in with those)
I'll just point out that deadline should run as a service so no login session would be necessary. But it wasn't really designed this way, so other problems might crop up, namely deciphering errors.
Maybe in 3.0?

Hey Ben, thanks for the follow-up. My lack of details certainly made it difficult and I appreciate you trying despite this. Windows is just another part of the toolbox, but fortunately it has the most available software, and like anything takes time & effort to know all aspects. For someone who has done as much c++ and Max dev as you, no wonder the “slow” masses are frustrating.
Thanks and good luck.
