atmospheric crashes on reflection

I can’t get krakatoa atmospheric to render reflections or any advanced effects anymore. My test is with brazil 2.0. This used to work. Now it just crashes the whole program.

What happened?

edit - I noticed that the brazil materials might be a culprit. Using a standard material with brazil-reflect does work.

Anyone? I can make another file.

Hey Ben,

We don’t have a Brazil 2 license at the moment (and the RIO learning edition downloads seem to actually be Brazil 2 pro somehow so we can’t go that route), but I was able to render this scene fine with a VRay material that was reflective.

Can you send me the crashdump file to redacted so I can see if there is something useful there. Otherwise we will have to wait until Splutterfish gets us a license.

any news?

The crash dump was not helpful unfortunately. I’m getting Brazil licenses right now to kill it myself.

Hey Ben,

It looks like that scene is crashing while rendering the shadow map for a light. One of the matte objects has a Brazil Material and it is segfaulting on the ShadeContext I created for evaluating the transparency of matte objects.

I’m going to try and see what I can do about this, but in the mean time you should be able to continue rendering by disabling shadows, or using a non-Brazil material on your matte objects.

The culprit was that my ShadeContext had a NULL globContext member and Brazil did not like that one bit. It will be fixed in the next build of Krakatoa (2.0.2).

Awesome.
