Beta 4 Delayed

We found some severe problems with the 32 bit build.
Instead of posting an installer that works reliably only in 64 bit, we decided to try to fix it after the holidays on Monday.
Sorry for the disappointment, we really wanted to give you something cool to play with.

Better it’s better than busted!

Enjoy your Holiday!

Gotta get everyone over to 64-bit soon. Krakatoa works best with high point counts, and that sort of needs 64-bit memory addressing.

True. But it would hurt sales if we were to remove the 32 bit builds.
Also, we had a situation lately which made using 64 bit impossible due to the issue often reported by users of scripts containing DotNet controls like SMTD or RPM. When memory usage goes over 4GB due to heavy geometry and textures, DotNet controls in MAXScript rollouts would become slow (so slow that Submit Max To Deadline dialog would need 10 minutes just to repaint the tab strip). We were forced to use 32 bit Max to run certain tools on the project and assemble scenes and used 64 bit only for network rendering. There is a rumor that this has been fixed in Max 2010, but we have not tested that yet. Anyway, not having Krakatoa in 32 bit to set up scenes would have been a disaster in production in this particular case. Plus I still have a 32 bit machine at home and I tend to tweak the UI scripts on weekends so I would miss 32 bit support myself.

I uploaded the Absorption page with an animation example, as well as the new features page and the KCM stuff.
Just to give you something to read over the weekend.

Very nice, fantastic light permeation and great shadows  there is a real good feel of caustic volumetric light (it obviously isn’t really there but kinda feels like it  )

Go get the build from the Downloads section!
