Blur Stoke Map

It would be really handy to have a blur function in the Stoke Map. I love the Stoke Map but it could really benefit from that. I can probably blur the field in Magma, I’ve been trying a few things like fading based distance to nearest point but I am still researching for a way to have a nice falloff without loosing the detail.

I’ve been doing a lot of cloud modeling using geometry and 3D procedurals and have gotten some good results (much more control, not leaving it up to a FFX sim, ability to create difficult shapes like supercells with the right velocities fairly easily etc.) but so far I haven’t nailed that last piece of giving it a nice falloff. I had to abandon it for this project since I am running out of time but I plan to explore this more in the future. The last piece of the puzzle really is the falloff but I don’t have the time right now – but I feel it should be very possible. Either way, having a blur option in Stoke Map would make a very useful addition.

Unfortunately, 3D procedural maps in Max typically do not implement blurring, and we believe that a single approach would not cover everybody’s needs. So it is not trivial and obviously won’t make it into Stoke 2.0. But we are aware of the need for blurring, either in the Field Magma itself (when using Grids) or in the Field Texmap (or in both).

I would love to have this feature as well.
