broken normal smoothing on export of some geo

Hello everyone, i’m Lele, writing from Munich.

Attached is a maya 2012 scene with a piece of polygonal geo created in-house from cad-data (with the corresponding xmesh export, and a capture of the save setting.).
Exporting with the saver version 1.2.0.53182 loses the smooth normals.

A few hints: the geo, exported as obj, and reimported in maya, preserves its normal smoothing attributes.
Exporting from the same scene (just in case there is pollution in the maya environment) a primitive turned to mesh into xMesh does preserve normals smoothing.
We’d be pretty happy to know what’s wrong with that geo, and take corrective steps on our side, if that was the case, and you had any idea as to why this may be happening.

Thanks for the help, and kudos for the performance: in point mode it’s great fun to deal with massive geo!

Thank you for your report!

This is caused by a bug on our side. I’m looking into fixing it now.

Thank you for looking into this!

(and sorry for the late reply, have been sick at home)

No problem!

The bug was in our XMesh Loader. It should be fixed in XMesh MY 1.2.0 RC3, which is available for download here: http://forums.thinkboxsoftware.com/viewforum.php?f=170

In the XMesh Saver dialog, please enable the “Normal” channel under “Channels to Save”. Then save the mesh, and load it. The Normals should now appear correctly.

The fix works flawlessly.
However, there is another nagging issue that popped up, will make a proper post.
