C4D cross platform errors

I’ve recently brought my Motion Graphics team onto the farm using C4D. The problem is that they are on MAcs while the farm and the rest of the team are Windows based. I’m using the Mapped Paths and generally it works fine. But every job they submit is plagued with the errors in the attached job report. This isn’t an error that is a job killer, we have been generally just setting the error limit really high and the job eventually goes through. I’ve always chalked it up to a network issue. But recently some of the jobs are getting to ridiculous levels of errors. Even though they eventually render, the wasted time is becoming an issue. So I’m curious if there is some sort of fix that can be found for this.

Thanks!

HI
Deadline is looking for the C4d R13 executable but cant find it. You have to check where Cinema R13 is actually installed on the slaves and then enter that path in the “Plugin Configuration” in monitor. Error in RenderExecutable: Cinema 4D 13 render executable was not found in the semicolon separated list "C:\Program Files\Maxon\CINEMA 4D R13\CINEMA 4D 64 Bit.exe;C:\Program Files\Maxon\CINEMA 4D R13\CINEMA 4D.exe;C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxon\CINEMA 4D R13\CINEMA 4D.exe;/Applications/MAXON/CINEMA 4D R13/CINEMA 4D.app/Contents/MacOS/CINEMA 4D". The path to the render executable can be configured from the Plugin Configuration in the Deadline Monitor.

That’s the first thing I checked when this started happening. Those paths are set by default and they are all currently correct.

Weird. Did you try to run one of the task render arguments locally on one of the slaves to see what happens?

Yeah, I’ve submitted the scenes from a Windows machine with Windows paths and it works fine with no errors. I’m confident it has something to do with the path swapping.

So are both win and mac slaves reporting this error? Or is it only the mac slaves? Could you post one of the error slave logs?

No this only happens on the Windows machines. The error never pops up when it lands on the Macs.

So we just ran a quick test where we sent a C4D job from a Windows machine to the farm. This went to the Windows machines on the farm. I still got errors but only a handful…although it was a pretty light scene. The scene the artist was using was a good bit heavier.

The top of the log says “Project not found”. Its looking for a file at “O:\Users\jBerkheimer\JamesTest\Animation\scenes\C4D_JamesTest_ALPHA\JamesTest_01\LowPolyRotate_001.c4d” is this a shared file? We usually get this error when somebody has “Enable Local Rendering” checked in their submitter.

We are using a shared server at our studio and no we aren’t checking “Enable Local Rendering”. The mystery deepens.

Strange.

Oh, wow, so many fun things here. So, looking over the various logs, the first two logs do show the message saying it cannot find the executable where it is looking, which is:
“C:\Program Files\Maxon\CINEMA 4D R13\CINEMA 4D 64 Bit.exe;C:\Program Files\Maxon\CINEMA 4D R13\CINEMA 4D.exe;C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxon\CINEMA 4D R13\CINEMA 4D.exe;/Applications/MAXON/CINEMA 4D R13/CINEMA 4D.app/Contents/MacOS/CINEMA 4D”. Can you tell me on machines CAWS1 and RENDER26, which of the Windows paths has the file it’s looking for? Can you also run the executable to make sure it does run.

Now, in the last log, bonsak is right, it looked for O:\Users\jBerkheimer\JamesTest\Animation\scenes\C4D_JamesTest_ALPHA\JamesTest_01\LowPolyRotate_001.c4d, and could not find it. Can you verify that RENDER30 has the O drive mounted properly that it can find the file, and try to run the file on that slave from the GUI? That is a Windows path, so as long as the share is mounted, it should be able to find it. Nothing in this thread shows any sign of mapped paths being any issue at all, in fact I don’t see any Mac paths in the log file at all.

Hope this helps.

I’m out of the office today so I can’t do any checks. I’ll revisit this on Monday. Thanks guys!
