Can we generate prt particles from an animated water mesh?

I mean what follows:

I can do a liquid simulation with ICE or with nParticles, then mesh it into maya, after that, can i generate particles based in that mesh so it will render that mesh as sand for example?

That should work as you describe. You can fill any mesh with particles using the PRT Volume. Filling a simulation mesh with particles would give an interesting effect!
